If you have ever picked up a camera, there is a good chance that you have enjoyed taking pictures. That makes you a photographer in today’s digital world, so I am glad that we share a common interest. But for me, it goes a little deeper. There is a weirdness about me in which I want to not only take beautiful photos, but I want to play with lights, use Gaffer tape, recharge batteries, make booms out of things that should not be used to make booms, play in Photoshop as though it is a video game, wrap cables and cords, and a lot of other things that people just don’t really like to do. To me, being a photographer is about much more than just finding a cool background and pushing a button. It is about a connection between me and you, collaborating together on how to create the most interesting and useful image for you. Maybe that means getting away from natural light and pulling out a few strobes. Maybe that means getting a little muddy. Maybe it means climbing on top of a mountain. All I know is that it means different things to different people, but for me I enjoy much more than just taking pictures. I enjoy making photographs.
A big piece of who I am is wrapped up in the other half of this thing, and her name is Heather. She is my amazing bride and the MUCH better half. If you know us at all, you know that we do everything together, so when one of us comes around, there is a very good chance that the other will be attached at the hip. She is the not so much the technical part of the team, her title falls more under Director of Details. She will notice when you need to freshen up the lip gloss or brush away those stray hairs. She can probably figure out which side is your “good side” before you can. Oh, and she can also cook anyone out there under the table. Not kidding. When she is not keeping me in line, she is most likely in the kitchen or hanging out with our 2 crazy dogs, Bunker and Keira.
Other than what I mentioned above, I am a closet techy geek that loves learning about how things work and what the latest and greatest big kid toys are. If it has wires or buttons chances are I will ask to play with it at least once. If I don’t break it, I will probably want to buy one for myself. When not breaking expensive toys, you can find me eating Heather’s food, hanging out with the dogs or finding some way to potentially hurt myself on a mountain or near water.
